Survey instruments
Various validated survey instruments as modules are available for use in EvaSys:
Berlin skills evaluation tool (Validated in English) (HeSEcom)
As part of the "Bologna process", participating countries have pledged to introduce similar courses. Furthermore, standardised quality of higher education should be provided in the foreseeable future. Utilising quantitative/qualitative survey methods will contribute to the successful education of students.
The aim of a course evaluation is, in this context, assessment of skills acquired as a result of university courses. Standard course evaluations usually assess the process i.e. an evaluation of lecturer behaviour or course design. Such evaluation tools therefore only assess the satisfaction of students with the course, not the assessment of skills learned.
In this context, a new survey instrument for the evaluation of student skills acquired had to be developed (Braun, Gusy, Leidner & Hanover, Druck). This was developed at the Free University of Berlin in the Department of Educational Science and Psychology, and has been used for course evaluations since the winter term 2004/2005. It raises the perception of University’s own student’s competence in technical, methodological, presentation, communication, cooperation and personal skils.
The HeSEcom questionnaire for EvaSys is available free of charge. It can be securely downloaded in our client area for existing EvaSys customers.
